The first quarter of 2010 has brought up a revelation into the overall mobile handset market. Blackberry Manufacturer Research in Motion has made an entry into the top five cell phone makers for the first time. During the first quarter of the year the international mobile market grew 21.7 percent in the first quarter of 2010 as with comparison to decline of 16.6 percent as observed during the first quarter of 2010. Smartphones, that allow people to e-mail, surf the Web, and access other Internet-based applications, have grown in popularity over the past year.

The growing demand also helped RIM, the largest maker of smartphones to establish itself into the top five of worldwide mobile handset makers list. Blackberry has displaced Motorolo that has struggling over the past few years as to get another hit phone to be placed by another popular flip-style Razor. RIM tied with Sony Ericsson as to be spotted at 4th position in IDC’s market share rankings with 10.6 million units shipped in the first quarter. Motorola shipped 8.5 million units.
