In a recent result of searches as carried out by firm Ovum’s latest mobile application developer survey show that Google’s server-side APIs are preferred to mobile operators’ own services by more than two to one. According to reports as indicated by Ovum that 60 percent of mobile developers use Google’s server-side APIs while in constructing applications.

Google while selecting partners for application development keep following requirement in mind like ease of development, breadth of platform functionality, good quality SDKs flexibility and innovation. Google and Apple have done ample pr exercise as to make their reach into mobile and server platforms with respect to make them more appealing for developers. And on the expected ground of popularity of Google’s applications as well as fact mobile operators did not, made much effort to make developer having interest in service offered through API.

There emerges two important conclusion emerges with this survey. The first one is that APIs continue to drive the adoption of cloud services (which Google provides) regardless of where the cloud-based data is to be consumed (in this case on mobile devices). This also reiterates the point that without APIs, the cloud doesn’t have much to offer most developers. Second point is that ease of development is driving developers to select out platforms -not carrier-offered functionality. Apple’s App Store topped the distribution charts, with 74 percent of respondents distributing or planning to distribute their applications through it. Android Market, BlackBerry App World, and Windows Marketplace for Mobile came within the range of 50 percent with sample supporting them. Finally, it is the, content which drives users to mobile applications and that content can be accessed through API at Google.
