Floppy disks are going out of production in Japan
2011 will be the year the floppy disc being going extinct as Japanese company Sony, that once sold out 47 million 3.5 inches discs a year at its peak now fazing them out in Japan one of its last markets. Last year their sales fell down to 8.5 million annually. Sony’s sales of floppies worldwide ended in March of this year. Sales in Japan will end next year exactly a year later. Nearly all the big manufactures of floppy has put curb on its production.
With the advent of other means to store information and transmit them on the counter the demand for the disk has been reduced severely. Added to that the fact that few computer makers are even including disc drives, there’s just no compelling reason to keep investing in them.
