Microsoft has come up its first ’social’ phone Kin
On the expected lines, Microsoft has finally launched its first version of social phone named as Kin directed towards younger users having interest in social networking. According to a statement released by Microsoft, the phones has been developed especially to aid people who love to been in touch with friends and share content.
This special phone of Microsoft is fitted with a high-resolution camera and is first of its kind to access the Microsoft’s Zune music service. This phone is seemed to be designed to counter competitors like Apple, Google and Research in Motion’s Blackberry. Manufactured by Sharp, the two Kin handsets will go on sale in the US in May. The Kin models on the Vodafone network would be launched in autumn 2010 in Europe and no prices has yet been released for them.
“This is a phone that knits together a tight community of kindred spirits…, the phone personifies true kinship between people, technology, friends and customers,” told Robbie Bach, president of the entertainment and devices division at Microsoft. On Microsoft, both phones have a multi-touch screen and a slide-out keyboard. The home screen of the phone always remains on and displays text messages, tweets and shared images as occurring in a group of friends.
There is an area there on the phone dubbed as “spot” over which owners can drag content like as videos and then can make decision about them as to share it among people and friends. The phone works with popular and famous social media sites like as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Along anything created on the phone is mirrored online and organized into a timeline and can be accessed through and from any internet browser.
“Social is the DNA of this phone,” told Microsoft’s Derek Snyder, one of the product marketing managers who worked on Ken’s development. “Social is the fabric of this experience.” he added further. The Kin shows up Microsoft’s departure from its routine software offering to phones to manufacturing of the phone itself and having hardware as well as software of the phone as well. As according to research firm Canalys, Microsoft’s share in smartphone software market is nearly 9%.
