Gmail introducing Nested Labels in its Inbox

For regular Gmail label users, Google lab is going through an experimental feature that is Nested Labels, which allows organizing your inbox in as much as possible categories of your choice and opinion and can be further divided into subcategories like as according to one’s choice and opinion.

As this utility to be included into your Gmail settings you should enter into Gmail Labs, and enable the “Nested Label” option. In case you want to construct upon a child label or subfolder you can create a label named as “Friends”. A nested label for that label could be named “Friends/Workplace”. It would be nice to manipulate nested labels via drag and drop, but for now this naming scheme is the only way to do it.

After creating nested labels, they can be collapsed and their parent label for better visibility. Google claims you can crate “complex hierarchies” of labels and it is true and they are even not capable reach out to the limit where nested labels can be created, owever, you’re limited by the number of characters you can use for the name of your label that is 40.

Another feature that is undergoing experiment is Message Sneak Peek that let you preview a message by right clicking on its subject in the inbox, though the message still remains unread. This feature occur to more useful if you turn on keyboard shortcuts in Gmail Settings and can have a sneek peek “card” by pressing “h”, and navigate with “j” and “k”. You can abort the peek card by hitting Escape.
