google-labsGoogle which is known for having interest in a number of fields and areas like e-mail, blogging, video, instant messaging, social networks and mobile phones has real reputation for capturing nearly 65% of the web market. Working on its strength, Google presently is working over developing a visual search tool to be named as Google Goggles that allows a user to have picture instead of keywords as the search query.

This new tool on search compares an image captured on a mobile phone with Googel’s database in the cloud to return back necessary information. According to Aparna Chennapragada, product manager for computer vision products at Google, told Google primarily aims for connecting and organize the world’s information and most of that information is provided in pictorial form.

“Information coming online right now is increasingly visual. So there are more images and more videos being uploaded by your cameras.” Though Goggles is running under beta testing yet is available for Android devices running on Android 1.6 and above. Another project that is still under way with Google is the Image Swirl that inspects images and organizes search result based upon photos around the web. The particular software looks objects in the image and offers alternatives that are visually similar.

For the cause of developing novel search methods, Google changes have changed its top search formula more than 500 times a year. This strategy attempts to stop commercial sites from manipulating the system to improve their ranking, and keeps results relevant.
