A pending plan to have an internet domain reserved specifically for adult websites that was put on back burner three years before is once again is in news to have a rebirth. The net’s governing body Icann will think over the .xxx scheme on 12th March. Icann earlier had given permission for domain as to be registered in 2005, but had to refrain from finalizing the order due to protest from US conservative groups.

A recent survey stated that the suspension was unusual and plan is reconsidered. Icann (Internet Corporation for Assigned Name and Numbers) is a recent assertion that in its forthcoming meeting in Nairobi, Kenya is would decide to back the proposals.

“If the contract is signed, we could be selling names by the end of the year,” said Stuart Lawley, chairman of ICM Registry, which put forward the plans for .xxx and would sell the domain names. In case, if this proposal gets an approval adult sites will be in position to use domains like .com. In 2007, Icann disapproved its original decision to let .xxx domains to be sold due to the massive protest from conservative groups, primarily in the US that was opposing it on the moral ground. Recently an arbitration panel of retired judges at the International Centre for Dispute Resolution ruled that the plan should be revisited after analysing evidence about the alleged interference. The board was of the view that Icann’s decision to reject the .xxx plan was “not consistent with the application of neutral, objective and fair documented policy” and should be revisited.
