Microsoft is sharing its browser market in Europe
It has been a cheering experience for Microsoft’s rival browsers as the Microsoft has added to its Windows operating system options to switch to Mozilla that is one of the strongest contender and competitor to internet explorer through its Firefox browser. And Mozilla, has stated that in Europe more than 50,000 people has downloaded Firefox through a “choice screen” that is usually pops up in windows equipped computers over there. That screen not only provides facility to download Firefox, there many other browsers can also be downloaded from the links provided there. The screen shows link to dozen browsers like Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple’s Safari and Opera.
Opera Software, based in Oslo, told that its download numbers has been increased to three times in Belgium, France, Britain, Poland and Spain since the changes adopted by Windows operating system in its screen in Europe. This move by Microsoft has been welcomed by Mr. Thomas Vinje, who is legal counsel to the European Committee for Interoperable Systems, a lobbying group situated in Brussels whose members include Opera. Refreshing, it was initially Opera’s on whose complaint European Commission registered an antitrust case against Microsoft that resulted into the company’s agreement last year to develop into a greater browser choice.
However, Microsoft was seen on another side of the table and told that it is too early to say about any significant numbers of users to change by adding the screen. The digital ballot is distributed around over the internet and the things would take proper shape by mid- may when process would be complete. Addition to development is new Windows computer across the European Union for five years. Despite so many tirades against it Explore still is leading browser in Europe as well as globally. Its share is less in Europe and is high in the United States and in recent time it lost ground too.
According to the data of StatCounter all three versions of Explorer has 46 percent market share in Europe as comparison to 58 percent globally. And after that successive numbers are of Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari.
