24 mobile operators get together to develop applications
During the proceedings of the World Mobile Congress 2010, twenty four of the largest mobile operators have clan together to pose challenge to mobile application stores as operated by Apple. This group named as Wholesale Applications Community tries to provide better environment for developers to create application so that make them regardless of device and technology they would work upon. This group includes mobile service providers like Vodafone, China Mobile and Sprint that have access and market capitalization of three billion users. Though research firm CSS tells that operators are not well qualified to handle this type of industry consortium. App market is coming up as a very lucrative business opportunity for mobile firms.
According to another report that apps market would go beyond $6.2 bn this year as number of download risings to 4.5 billion from 2.5 billion last year. And by 2013 downloads would rise up to the level of 21 billion. The group of these 24 network operators is well supported by hardware manufacturers like LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony Ericsson as well as industry body GSM association. The software firm Adobe too supported sentiments of the Group. Adobe has announced that it will offer its AIR platform on mobile device on phone operation on Google’s Android operating system. Air is presently available with desktops and let developers to create desktop applications for services that are commonly found in the browser.
Till now that platform was not available on smart phones, however, now on developers would be able to develop and publish applications running on different platforms.
