Privacy issue may take toll of Google Buzz

Submitted by admin on Thursday, 11 February 2010No Comment

There is no doubt, that Google Buzz is wonderful in its features and operations, but on the other front it is repeating the mistake as earlier committed by Facebook on privacy where it exposed its user’s data to the entire world. It is absolutely right for social media to have streamlines communication, real-time updating, in-line video and photo posting but it is anyway deemed to be correct on part of any product that burst out in your inbox as tornado as appeared in case of Google Buzz.

There are many privacy issues in Buzz that are needed to be looked after attentively like publicly revealing someone’s personal contact list without asking him, broadcasting e-mail address if someone wants to get into Buzzing with you. This is indeed very wrong on Google and is on Facebook’s foot steps.

Starting with in Google Buzz first you follow everyone in your Gmail contact list and that information is made available publicly from your profile to everyone who visits your profile. That information is provided through helpful “follow” links and you too expand your buzz network by following personal contact lists of other people too. However, by unchecking the Display the list of people I’m following and people following me you can prevent your profile being public.

More for annoyance there is a Google profile page with a URL that offers at the bottom of the page where your e-mail is handled and every time when someone would answer you on Buzz he will explode your e-mail id to the entire world. More on Android, it even can take uploaded picture upto personal Buzz page crossing limits of Mobile privacy. Despite this much privacy issues there are many features if observed carefully can protect your privacy, and Google too can rectify things after receiving feedback.
