Verizon penalized some 4chan sites by blocking them

Adopting stricter measure in a recent development Verizon for a temporarily period blocked traffic from Web sites affiliated with the 4chan online forum on Monday discovering some sites being indulged into network attacks. As told by Verizon spokesman Jeffery Nelson told in a mail to leading tech media site CNET, “Our network security system found traffic from some 4Chan Web sites that had strong potential to disrupt the Verizon Wireless network, affecting our customers’ use of their services,”

It is yet not clear which sites were affected and what was the exact nature of the trouble, however sites were remained blocked as far as for three days as according to 4chan status page. In July too AT&T blocked a 4chan server when it was disclosed that another site has attacked a denial-of- service type of attack better named as SYN Flood attack on the site.

However, to these prohibition 4chan users which are known for their Internet pranks responded by posting a false story on CNN’s iReport citizen journalism site alleging death of AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson. To clarify its stance, Verizon has posted its statement on company’s policy blog as stating: “Recently, Verizon Wireless security and external experts detected attacks from an IP address associated with the 4Chan family of web sites that was disruptive to our customers and our network… today”.
