“Symbian”, the phone operating system goes open source
Symbian- the company known for the world’s most popular smart phone operating system is providing its valuable code absolutely for free. After the decision of Symbian foundation its code is open source and any individual or organization can modify it for any specific use and purposes.
Symbian has provided its application to more than 330m mobile phones and it is considers that by opening source the Symbian foundation wants to invite new developers to work on system which would speed up the improvement and add new features on the operating system. It is termed as Symbian’s move of transitioning from one business model to another and brings it out from the shadow of the release of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android operating system.
This OS software was presented by Nokia in 2008 and that further on established non-profit Symbian Foundation to look at its development. The foundation involves Nokia, AT&T, LG, Motorola, NTT, Docomo, Samsung, Vodafone, Sony Ericsson, Texas instruments and STMicroelectronics. Now the group has released Symbian platform as open source code. The open source code platform combines different elements of Symbian operating system particularly user interfaces developed by individual members.
The source code can be downloaded from organization’s website and the real motive behind it established as to speed up the rate at which the 10 year old platform was founded and established and add new and innovative features to the operating system.
