China Arrests 5,394 People in Internet Porn Sweep
The Chinese internet media sphere for through out the year was filled and capped with the news of Chinese government’s efforts to filter the internet for its citizens involving popular social sites, mandating blocking software on all PCs sold in the country, petitioning Google to remove away content from the Chinese index and so more.
These efforts taken by the Chinese government resulted in 5,394 arrests and 4,186 criminal cases as investigated during 2009. According to the Chinese officials these arrest and investigations more are part of the campaign against internet pornography that as expected to be an overwhelming sequence to the campaign against internet pornography.
According to critics in anti- pornography drive that is a tool for deepening censorship of political views expressed through user-generated content and is a campaign to get control over new media and getting cracking down on internet porn. These banned sites involves YouTube (You Tube), Twitter (Twitter), Flickr (Flickr) and Facebook ( Facebook).
