UK government is coming up with newer communication bills
As to prevent illegal sharing of files, UK government has come up with Digital Economy Bill as illustrated in the Queen’s Speech. The bill is powered to disconnect services of consistent pirates. However, under this bill the complicated broadband tax is not included and is fixed with Finance Bill, due for next year. Other important issues to be handled through the bill are shake-up of radio spectrum and a classification system for video games.
According to UK government the bill, “ ensure communications infrastructure that is fit for the digital age, supports future economic growth, delivers competitive communications and enhances public service broadcasting”. The plan to prevent illegal sharing is based upon two structures first educating customer then sending letter to those identified for illegal sharing. And despite there is no resumption of routine behavior is as adopted by the pirates then there would be a disconnection of persistent pirates.
The Chief executive of music industry body the BPI, Geoff Taylor welcomes the bill thus stating, “It is good news for fans of British music that government is now introducing legislation to tackle illegal downloading. The creative sector in the UK needs new measures implemented urgently that address this problem for now and the future if the UK is to lead Europe in giving consumers innovative and high quality digital entertainment,” he said.
But there is also other side to this bill as Lobby Organization is pleading people to contact their MPs to oppose the bill. “This plan won’t stop copyright infringement and with a simple accusation could see you and your family disconnected from the internet - unable to engage in everyday activities like shopping and socialising,” the group says.
