India Moon mission Chandrayaan-1 developed technical problem
India’s first mission to the Moon has entangled with a technical problem. According to an ISRO statement, a sensor of the unmanned Chandrayaan-1 has developed malfunctioning and there steps has been taken to ensure that it may start working very soon. There is the slightest possibility that project may be cut short. Chandrayaan – 1 was considered as big leap for Indian space mission in competition to other countries in space research in Asia.
Scientists belonging to the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) told that the “vital star sensor” of the spacecraft had “malfunctioned”. “The mission is safe, but its lifespan may be affected,” Isro spokesman told media. As the spacecraft is put on a higher orbit that can affect the qualities of images sent back. Chandrayaan-1 space craft sent into the space from southern Andhra Pradesh. It is on two-year mission of exploration. Powered by a single solar panel that can generate 700 watts, the Isro probe have carried five Indian-built instruments and six constructed in other countries, including the US, Britain and Germany. The mission cost 3.8bn rupees (£45m; $78m), comparatively far less than Japanese and Chinese moon missions.
