Microsoft closing down Popfly - mash up application
In a recent announcement, Microsoft said that by late August it will wind up once its very popular mashup creation application Popfly. In a blog post, team leader John Montgomery affirm the news by writing that on August 24, 2009 the Popfly service will be closed down from all sites and references.
He said, Microsoft’s Web Platform and Xbox development program related to Popfly from the date will be discontinued with an effect. Popfly powered with Silverlight was started as private beta 2 years ago, when mash-up and widget creation was on craze. However, the product remained hanging up with Private beta and Microsoft already declared last January about its closure.
PC World magazine appreciated the Popfly as soon as it was released by Steven A. Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive, at Web 2.0 conference as most innovative computing and consumer electronics products of 2007. It created more than 100,000 users and at a time have 50,000 “mashups”.
