Canadian privacy commission gave 30 days deadline to Facebook
In a recent development, a Canadian privacy commission has charged Facebook for breaching privacy laws in Canada. Canadian Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart at a press conference in Ottawa condemned Facebook for retaining user info despite closure of user’s account.
Facebook has around 12 million Canadian users, which is 1/3 of the total Canadian population that is concerning Privacy commissioner in Canada. Commission also charged Facebook for displaying confused and incomplete information. And other criticism was there for providing too much private information too, third party application developers.
Meanwhile, Facebook’s retention of data from closed accounts is violation of Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, the commission claims.
Facebook is provided with 30 days deadline to employ changes and have agreed to the most of the clauses. Facebook’s Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly was quoted saying in an AFP report that “We continue our dialogue and have every confidence that we will come to acceptable conclusions. I think the concerns are fully resolvable.”
