Google Chrome OS to be launched with expectations and competition
In a major announcement by Google on 7th July 2009, surprised everyone, which is about launching a new operating system Google Chrome OS. This announcement as far in the software industry has rolled out big expectations, whether, Google version of operating system would able to compete with Microsoft’s Windows and challenge its authority in OS market.
Following extract from Google’s official announcement focuses on its strategy and offering with regard to coming Chrome operating system, “Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome (Google Chrome) browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.”
As to differentiate it with Windows, Google Chrome OS is aimed to cater computing world based on the web. Google Chrome is developed to run within a window system on around Linux (linux) kernel to make web applications to run immediately over it. However there are many good features in the Google Chrome, when it is compared with windows. Google OS being open source is absolutely free where as Microsoft window is a paid entity. It seems obvious reasoning that being free it may be monetize with Ads as Google is expert in web advertising it can be a new revenue stream for them.
There is also clear doubt about support for desktop applications on Google Chrome OS and above all whether it would be capable of running Microsoft Word or Photoshop. More would be extendable for third party developers. There are many questions that can be better answered after official release of the OS, till then we can wait and watch things.
