Camfrog Video Chat software features and review
Introduction:
Camfrog Video Chat is a software chat with friends, through video.
Features:
- Allows 1-on-1 video chat, or group video chat.
- Camfrog does not require a webcam to see people
- It works behind all firewalls, routers, and wireless networks.
- It has a user-friendly directory, enabling you to find new people to chat with
Review:
The free version of the application is great, if you’re willing to give up certain features. The free version allows you to join various chat rooms filled with strangers, and can be used to video conference with friends too, of course. The full-featured version of Camfrog costs 49.95.
The Good
Most of the video streaming is really good, and it is very user friendly and easy to handle. It has lots of chat rooms and users can even start their own, should their bandwidth permit it. It has a list of contacts as well as a list of blocked users, whom Camfrog will not allow to contact you in any way. Users can also communicate with each other via private messages (PM’s)
The Bad:
The free version is very limited. Only registered users can video chat one-on-one with another user, share files, or use audio.
The lack of more features is the applications greatest drawback. Even though the price looks reasonable, since it is a one-time fee, when compared to other, more expensive video chat applications, it has very limited options, compared to other chat clients.
The Truth
Camfrog is really great if you are in need of someone to talk to. It helps you in your search of friends, as chat rooms are filled with people that can “assist” you in the matter and have conversations with you. The chat rooms offer great varieties of subjects that are being discussed, and you can cut in a public conversation at any time to express your opinion (being civil helps).
As broadcasting Video is the main purpose of Camfrog, it does that well, as the quality and streaming is great. However, many options that should have been included are either ignored, or completely missing.
The free version of Camfrog is the most limited, not providing options that almost every other regular chat client provides, including automatic conversation logs, or file sharing.
As the free edition is the only version we tested, we will rate that only and give it a 3 star rating. For the registered version, the rating increases by one star to give a 4 star rating.
