Bharti Airtel left saregama far behind in sales of music in india
Bharti Airtel by overtaking Saregama, the Indian music Industry leader has become biggest music company in India. Airtel paced back Saregama in terms of sales for its mobile based services.
According to Bharti Airtel’s Deputy CEO Sanjay Kapoor, “Music Bharti has become the largest music company in India, overtaking Saregama India Ltd in terms of revenue. However, exact amount for revenue was not disclosed by Mr. Kapoor. In category of its services, Airtel provide services like hello tunes, call-back tunes and music on Demand.
Saregama had an annual revenue of Rs. 150 crore (Rs. 1.5 billion) in the fiscal ended March 31,2008. In recent development Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Group went into a deal with multi-million dollar deal with Manchester United as to offer mobile subscribers access to the mobile content related to British football club.
In the year 2008, Bharti Airtel won the ‘Best Mobile Music, TV or Video Service’ at the GSMA Asia Mobile Award 2008 at Macau. It was the great achievement as Airtel won that prize after winning over Telstra Corporation, Australia, Geodesic Inc, US, Artificial Life Inc, Hong Long and Gracenote, US.
