Traveling in Time of Crisis

Submitted by admin on Saturday, 9 May 2009No Comment

The economic crisis and the collapse of capitalism have affected all sectors of trade, but the tourism industry was and is one of the worst hit.

Today the Internet constantly gives us new information and tips on how to travel for on money, without losing quality of service. Some of the cost cutting suggestions include:

Organization:
The more organized you are, the cheaper your trip will be. Before starting the trip, make sure that you have all the items that you may need during your journey. Be clear on the amount of money available to spend, and how many days the trip will take.

Anticipation:
The sooner you book your airfare, the cheaper it will be. The prices of airline tickets go up as people approach their date of travel. This is a result of the reduced number of seats per flight demand. This technique also freezes ticket prices for upcoming rate hikes, and is also dependent on the rise of the dollar and the devaluation of the currency in your country.

Date:
Depending on the season, airline prices go up or down. Be aware of peak times to avoid taking airplanes; try to change a couple of calendar days to pay lower prices during the hours with little or no seasonal demand. Flights departing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are usually cheaper, and then go up during the weekends.

Negative Banda flights:
These flights are provided by airlines to provide very low prices that happen because there is certain number of aircraft flying with empty seats. This happens more than anything to return the airplanes to certain destinations during peak times. These empty seats will generate large losses to the airline, so they provide them without notice to passengers.

Scales:
Flights with stopovers are a good option if you are traveling, as they cost less money. This is because at every stop, airlines can pick up more passengers, and reduce fares. However, the journey then becomes longer then it would be without stopovers.

Hostels:
This type of accommodation is most used by young people for their simplicity and low price. Many times, the service quality of a hostel is very similar to that of any hotel, but the difference in rates is a very important factor.

Exchange:
The economic crisis has increased the growth of the exchange of tourists between houses. Through several websites you can contact people who want to trade there house for another house to rent for a specific time period. This allows you to save on eating out, and mobility, as often the vehicles are also exchanged. All you need is a ticket to get to the destination, and some notes.

Hospitality:
Knowing the culture inside the country and the people you are going to visit will come in handy. There are several communities on the Internet with people who offer their empty beds to foreigners that are traveling.
